Copy Editing

Copy-editing involves an in-depth examination of the manuscript. For example, I was copy-editing a book a few years ago and a character died in Chapter 3 only to re-appear again in Chapter 6, two years after his supposed death! This is the type of thing copy-editing helps to avoid.

Barrett Editing copy-editing services include:

  • Working onscreen or with hard copy MS mark-up, whichever suits you better.
  • Ensuring consistency of publisher’s house style, general layout and formatting throughout.
  • Marking headings/subheadings for the typesetter
  • Assessing language level.
  • Checking every sentence/paragraph makes sense.
  • Verifying consistency of character names, backgrounds and
  • Highlighting repetitive text and suggesting options to eliminate it and overused adjectives.
