Bua na Cainte bringing Irish to life!

 

Since 2011 Barrett Editing has worked with the Educational Company of Ireland (Edco) on the development of the award-winning Bua na Cainte Irish language programme for primary schools.

From Junior Infants to Sixth Class the eight-level  interactive programme contains:

    • hundreds of animations featuring stories, songs, poems  and teaching conversations for daily lessons, with matching teaching notes.
    • hundreds of interactive games, for example listening, matching, colouring, drawing, guessing and jigsaw games, with crosswords and wordsearches
    • IWB functionality.
    • Pupils’ textbooks – reinforcing the material covered online and encouraging children to practise using the Irish language in a variety of settings.
    • Teacher’s Resource Books with detailed lesson plans where teaching methodologies and strategies are suggested for the teacher.

Project Manager 2011-2023 – My role

  • The central contact person dealing with the approx. 30 stakeholders involved in the production of each level of Bua na Cainte:
      • Irish and international animators, game developers and reviewers
      • ICT digital and editorial testers
      • song/poem recording studio teams, team of singers
      • audio recording production, vocalists, Irish language specialists and post-production teams in multiple studios
      • the Publisher’s in-house editorial/production/marketing/digital personnel
      • the authors, graphic designers, cover designers, editors, illustrators, proof-readers
  • Managing budgets, setting fees with stakeholders, processing financials.
  • Scheduling contractors, freelancers and in-house teams to meet ICT and book deadlines in liaison with Edco Production department
  • Co-ordinating script production, design interface instructions
  • Commissioning picture research and character, storyboard and wireframe development
  • Keeping regular consultations with all teams in response tomarket research
  • ICT testing and template editing to establish workable scripts at start of the process so that serial mistakes do not run through the approx. 400 games and 200 animations in each level of the programme.
  • Managing quality on storyboards, editorial and proofing processes, audio production of approx. 15,000 lines per BNC level
  • Commissioning MS files on textbooks and specification of book
  • Overseeing copyright clearance and copyright requirements song lyrics, music, photos, illustrations, text as required
  • Monitor time frames on the animations to make sure they do not overrun and effect costs.
  • Assessing the quality of the animations in relation to density, action and to audio/action equality.
  • Organising checks on the approx. 1000 PDF printable resources required
